How can you effectively connect with a company to help develop or license your invention or idea? What is the best way to become connected in the medical innovation community?
Aligning the IP side with licensing with experienced physicians who can see the potential and align early trials is the issue here. Evaluation licensing needs to be discussed in the OC for UCI concepts. Faculty or other IP rights holders need to properly evaluate the early prototype for applicability to a large enough problem. Sometimes I have noticed that some engineering focused people are so focused on the technical issues that they do not realize that their line of logic has effectively diminished the capability of their invention to reach a mass market capable of supporting a company. In so doing, the concept becomes somewhat orphaned with a limited scope. It is important to not do this to concepts and to get customer discovery aligned with the pain points being solved by the device or digital solution.
